I've been photographing for an eternity. Until a few years ago, I put analog films in my cameras and spent a lot of time in the lab. Nowadays, I switched to digital photography and took the most important values and techniques with me. I am a classic black and white photographer. I studied classical photography and model affaires in Switzerland and learned that it's worth to invest time in his work. It's not about taking thousands of pictures to get 20 good shots or just manipulate ordinary pictures in Photoshop till they are pleasant enough. Of course the work is much more laborious, but the results are correspondingly more valuable and unique. In this classical area you should work more thoughtfully. Otherwise, I am also a trainer / instructor for models and photographers.

As far as the photographic direction is concerned, I am a black and white nude photographer. However, nude photography does not always make sense; then I deviate from this motto.

My way of working might seem a bit awkward and complicated to most. I prepare every shoot well. This includes sketches and drawings. My own instructor taught me not to hide behind concepts like spontaneity. Many people simply have no ideas and inspiration and try to cover this lack of creativity with spontaneity.

Other photographic genre and my projects

Anyone who knows me knows that I also work in other photographic areas. Sometimes it's political with journalistic or documentary intentions and sometimes it's about landscape or architectural photography.

So far I don’t put these pictures out here. Why? Unfortunately it is because of the nature of internet. I don’t put the results of my projects here; but maybe single shots. Unfortunately, image rights and source references are not taken seriously in the Internet. That's why I do not publish most of my work here. The pictures here are intended to give interested models a chance to see my work with the models. If you want to know more and see more, you should work with me or talk to me.

I know this is unusual. Most people are too expressive and cannot get enough of likes and clicks. Instgram, Facebook and Twitter are a must for them.

In my opinion, the art needs time and space. For quick consumption is also more a soft drink more suitable than a glass of Brunello.

Now I want to say a few more words about the nude photography:

About the nature of nude photography and its connection with black and white photography

Much could be said about the nude photography. However, there are few characteristics that shape the nude photography as an art and distinguish it from ordinary pornography or sexism oriented photography.

It's not easy to notice when people are on the way of "pure mastery of technology", confused trying to "hunt the moment of pleasing"; asking for more likes in the social networks. Many photographers and camera-users forget why clothes are left out in the arts, not only in photography: without their clothes and other status symbols, the king is indistinguishable from the beggar.

This statement may seem too one-dimensional and oversimplified, however, you should not forget that all arts are forms of simplification. The stylistic devices, procedures and materials may vary, but ultimately the artist seeks only a way to express their own feelings, thoughts, themes and ideas.

Nude photography and erotic:

Anyone who equates nude photography with erotic photography is either a teenager and pubescent or has never consciously dealt with the subject and nature of eroticism. Eroticism is absolutely depending of the individual preferences and experiences and can only be influenced to a limited extent by the photographer. While some people find a woman in a military uniform erotic, others feel repelled by the same person. There are people who are attracted to feet and others are on rubber boots. In Western countries, the portrait of a woman wearing a headscarf, where you slightly can see a bit of hair, will trigger hardly more than a political statement. The same picture will have a particularly erotic effect in a very religious environment due to the strong regulations of society. These examples were intended to show that eroticism should be understood either as a compliment to the observer or as a by-product of the visual perception of some people. Erotic gets a part of my work if it's a dominant part of the character of my model.

Nude reduces all distractions to a minimum. It represents a close hug to build a deep bond with black and white photography.

Black and white photography optimally reduces the image to the essentials and frees the viewer's gaze and the viewer's attention to the intentional core of the image. In this regard, it is complementary to the nude photography. Both refrain from incidentals to enrich the result. However, nude photography sometimes can not make sense for the sake of the dignity of the model, endangerment of the participants, or simply situational or motive ineptitude, and therefore can not be used without covering or clothing, e.g. as an aid. However, this does not change the fact that black and white photography frees the picture from the deceptive effect and weighting of the colours. Shrouded in shades of gray, the object can partially and yet holistically turn to the light or dark, It can manifest as a vision of the artist.

As you can see, both black-and-white photography and nude photography reduce the motif itself, but also in its situational and conceptual environment and context. Through the reduction, they liberate the motif from many constraints and prejudices. But they also liberate the photographer from an unrecognized overstrain due to the variety of colours and structures, from an illusory world that is more influenced by the environment, colour and ambience than by the motif itself.

Whether everything is beautiful, erotic, repulsive, provocative or whatever it is, should therefore not be the primary task of the photographer and his main focus. All these should be subordinated as much as possible to the creativity and intentions of the photographer.

This page would not have originated without Mr. Schmitz of the agency Concitus. I had a slightly crazy idea and concept that I sent to him on 13 pages in text and sketch form very detailed and tangible. I did not want to use Flash so I could manage the page myself. At the same time, the site itself should not be overloaded and it should be the first website without navigation bar! My design and concept included much more that the site should carry the visitor with each click in metamorphic manner. So I wanted movement, but no gimmick and especially no Flash. Ideas and concepts are important, but you need someone with the ability of creating them. The result is this design.  In my opinion, an optimal shape to reflect my way of working. Regarding to the programming, it is absolutely successful. Well done and “chapeau” Mr. Schmitz.

Seit einer halben Ewigkeit fotografiere ich. Ich sehe mich als einen klassischen Schwarzweiß-Fotografen an, der sich noch die Mühe macht Filme einzulegen und die Bilder im Labor zu bearbeiten. Die Arbeit ist natürlich deutlich mühsamer, aber die Ergebnisse sind entsprechend wertvoller und einmaliger.
In diesem klassischen Bereich arbeitet man einfach bedachter.

Ansonsten bin ich auch Trainer/Ausbilder für Modele und Fotografen.

Was die fotografische Richtung anbetrifft, bin ich vom Hause her ein Akt-Fotograf. Jedoch macht Akt nicht immer Sinn; dann weiche ich von dieser Devise ab.

Meine Arbeitsweise dürfte den meisten etwas umständlich erscheinen. Ich bereite jedes Shooting gut vor. Dazu gehören auch Skizzen und Zeichnungen. Mein eigener Ausbilder brachte mir bei, dass man sich als Fotograf auf keinen Fall hinter Begriffe wie Spontanität verstecken darf. Viele haben einfach keine Ideen und Vorstellungen und spielen dann den Spontanen.

Andere fotografische Genre und meine Projekte

Wer mich kennt, weiß, dass ich auch in anderen fotografischen Bereichen arbeite. Mal ist es politisch mit journalistischen oder dokumentarischen Absichten und mal geht es um Landschafts- oder Architekturfotografie.

Bislang stelle ich diese Bilder hier nicht aus. Warum? Das liegt leider in der Natur der Sache. Auch meine Projekte stelle ich hier nicht hier aus, sondern vielleicht einzelne Aufnahmen. Leider werden im Internetzeitalter Bildrechte und Quellenhinweise nicht ernst genommen. Deshalb veröffentliche ich meine meisten Arbeiten hier nicht. Die Aufnahmen hier sollen vor allem interessierten Modellen eine Möglichkeit bieten, meine Arbeiten mit den Modellen zu sehen. Wer mehr wissen und sehen will, sollte mit mir zusammenarbeiten oder mich darauf ansprechen.

Ich weiß, dass dies ungewöhnlich ist. Die meisten sind eher zu expressiv und können von Likes und Klickzahlen nicht genug haben. Instgram, Facebook und Twitter sind für sie ein muss.

Ich denke viel mehr, dass die Kunst Zeit und Raum braucht. Für den schnellen Konsum ist auch eher ein Softdrink als ein Glas Brunello gedacht.

Nun möchte ich ein paar Worte noch über die Akt-Fotografie verlieren:

Vom Wesen der Akt-Fotografie und ihrer Verbundenheit mit der Schwarzweiß-Fotografie

Viel ließe sich sagen und doch sind es wenige Charakteristika, welche die Akt-Fotografie formen und sie über das dünne Seil der „reinen Beherrschung der Technik“ durch das bunte Tal der „Jagd nach dem Moment des Gefallens“ bis hin zu der Geburtsstätte der Kunst führen.

Viele Fotografen und Bildermacher vergessen, warum auf die Kleidung verzichtet wird: Ohne ihre Kleider und sonstigen Statussymbole ist der König vom Bettler nicht zu unterscheiden.

Wem diese Aussage zu eindimensional und versimplifiziert vorkommt, hat möglicherweise vergessen, dass alle Künste Formen der Vereinfachung darstellen. Die Stilmittel, Verfahren und Materialien mögen variieren, aber letztlich sucht der Künstler dadurch nur eine Möglichkeit für die Expression der eigenen Gefühle, Gedanken, Themen und Vorstellungen.

Wer die Akt-Fotografie mit erotische Fotografie gleichsetzt, ist dabei entweder ein Teenager und pubertierend oder hat sich noch nie bewusst mit der Thematik der Erotik beschäftigt. Erotik liegt im Auge des Betrachters und lässt sich nur bedingt beeinflussen. Während manche Menschen eine Frau in einer Militäruniform erotisch finden, fühlen sich andere von derselben Person abgestoßen. Es gibt Menschen, die sich von Füßen angezogen fühlen und andere stehen auf Gummistiefel. In Europa wird das Portrait einer Frau mit Kopftuch, bei der man leicht die Haare sehen kann, höchstens als interessant oder je nach Aussehen des Models besonders attraktiv bezeichnet werden. Das gleiche Bild wird in einer sehr religiösen Umgebung aufgrund der starken Reglementierungen der Gesellschaft eine besonders erotische Wirkung zeigen können. Gerade dieses Beispiel sollte zeigen, dass Erotik entweder als Kompliment des Betrachters oder auch Nebenprodukt der visuellen Wahrnehmung mancher Menschen aufgefasst werden sollte.

Akt reduziert alle Ablenkungen auf ein Minimum. Er stellt die Umarmung, ja die Schnittstelle, treffender gesagt, die tiefe Verbundenheit mit der Schwarzweiß-Fotografie dar.

Die Schwarzweiß-Fotografie reduziert das Bild im Optimal-Fall auf das Wesentliche und befreit und führt sowohl den Blick als auch die Aufmerksamkeit des Betrachters auf den intentionalen Kern des Bildes. Diesbezüglich verhält sie sich zu der Akt-Fotografie komplementär. Beide verzichten auf Nebensächlichkeiten, um das Ergebnis zu bereichern. Die Akt-Fotografie kann jedoch manchmal aus Gründen der Würde des Models, Gefährdung von Beteiligten oder einfach situativer oder motivaler Unpassenheit keinen Sinn machen und sich von daher der Kleidung z.B. als Hilfsmittel bedienen. Dies ändert jedoch nichts daran, dass die Schwarzweiß-Fotografie das Bild von der trügerischen Wirkung und Gewichtung der Farben befreit. In Graustufen gehüllt, kann das Objekt partiell und doch ganzheitlich sich dem Licht oder Dunkel zuwenden, unterwerfen, sie umarmen und als Vision des Künstlers manifestieren.

Wie man sieht, reduzieren beide, die Schwarzweiß-Fotografie und die Akt-Fotografie, das Motiv an sich, aber auch in seinem situativen und konzeptionellen Umfeld und Kontext. Durch die Reduktion befreien sie das Motiv von vielen Zwängen und Vorurteilen. Sie befreien aber auch den Fotografen von einer nicht erkannten Überforderungen durch die Farb- und Strukturvielfalt, von einer Scheinwelt, die mehr durch das Umfeld, Farbe und Ambiente als durch das Motiv selbst geprägt ist.

Ob nun alles schön, erotisch, abstoßend, provokativ oder wie auch immer empfunden wird, sollte von daher nicht die primäre Aufgabe des Fotografen sein und seinen Hauptaugenmerk darstellen. All das sollte möglichst den Intentionen des Fotografen untergeordnet werden.

Über diese Seite

Diese Seite wäre ohne Herr Schmitz von der Agentur Concitus nicht entstanden. Ich hatte eine etwas verrückte Idee und Konzept, die ich auf 13 Seiten in Text- und Skizzenform sehr detailliert und konkret ihm zukommen ließ. Ich wollte kein Flash verwenden, damit ich selbst die Seite betreuen konnte. Gleichzeitig sollte die Seite selbst nicht überladen sein und es sollte die erste Internetseite ohne Navigationsleiste werden! Mein Design und Konzept beinhaltete viel mehr, dass die Seite mit jedem Klick in metamorpherweise den Besucher mit sich führen sollte. Ich wollte also Bewegung, aber kein Schnick-Schnack oder Geblinke und vor allem kein Flash. Ideen und Konzepte brauchen, aber einer Person, die diese auch mit sehr viel Zeitaufwand umsetzt. Das Resultat liegt vor und wenngleich diese Form nicht jedem gefallen muss, ist diese Design, meiner Ansicht nach einie optimale Form, um meine Arbeitsweise zu widerspiegeln. Was die Programmierung anbetrifft, ist sie bestens gelungen. Chapeau Herr Schmitz.
